Domestic Energy Advice South Lanarkshire (DEA.SL) officially launches

Domestic Energy Advice South Lanarkshire (DEA.SL) officially launches

The Wise Group officially launched the Domestic Energy Advice South Lanarkshire (DEA.SL) project last week, at Hillhouse Community Centre in Hamilton.

The project is a six-month pilot collaboration between The Wise Group, South Lanarkshire Council, and its employability arm, “Routes to Work South”.

A team of nine home energy advisors were recruited after an event with Routes to Work South, and the successful candidates joined us in February when they completed their City and Guild Energy Awareness qualification.

This was followed by an intense six-week period of “mentoring” by our Glasgow Home Energy Advice Team (G.HEAT) allowing the advisors to gain experience of the issues they could face whilst visiting residents in South Lanarkshire.  Three “mentors” from within the current G.HEAT team will offer guidance and support to the DEA.SL advisors throughout the duration of the project.

The advisors are also doing their Domestic Energy Assessor training, which will finish in June and will be followed by Green Deal Assessor training, which will give them the vitals skills for a job in the energy sector.

The DEA.SL advisors will deliver personal home energy advice via home visits to areas of Hamilton, and will cover all aspects of home energy usage from demonstrating how to operate heating most effectively, to in-depth advocacy and support work with utility companies.

G.HEAT and DEA.SL Project Manager Graeme Mullin commented, “ The DEA.SL model is a very exciting concept, and brings together The Wise Group’s expertise within Employability, Training and Sustainability.  G.HEAT has returned some incredible results and customer savings in its first three years in Glasgow, and we expect some similarly impressive results in South Lanarkshire from the DEA.SL team.

The DEA.SL project allows us to provide an excellent training package to the nine successful advisors and will also greatly benefit the residents of Hamilton, so the project is very much “win-win”.

The official project launch saw the DEA.SL advisors and mentors hold a public information event in Hamilton attended by members of South Lanarkshire Council.

The project is now live and fully operational in Hamilton. If you live in Hamilton and would like a visit from a DES.AL advisor call 0800 092 9002.

If you live in Glasgow and would like to contact G.HEAT call 0800 092 9002 for more information.
