Regeneration: Home Security

Home Security

home security project

Crime is a major cause of anxiety for many people. With a view to reducing crime and alleviating the fear of crime, the Wise Group works with social landlords to supply and fit a range of home security measures for tenants. This is an excellent example of a community regeneration programme which has helped thousands of tenants to feel safer and more secure in their own homes.

Each household receives a security survey to ensure that the measures provided and the accompanying advice are tailored to its need. The measures include:

  • Door Chains
  • Door Viewers
  • Door and Window Alarms
  • Personal Alarms.

Tenants have reported a noticeable improvement in the quality of their lives as a direct result of home security projects.

The Wise Group can also provide a ‘Fast Response’ service. This has proved extremely popular and effective, dealing with emergency/urgent referrals from the Police, the Social Work Department and the Fire Service.  The majority of referrals are responded to within a maximum of 48 hours.

"Strong communities need to feel safe and secure. If crime is not to be a cause of exclusion within a community, there is a need to promote Community Safety.  In other words, action needs to be taken to protect people's right to live in confidence and without fear for their own safety, or the safety of other people”.

North Lanarkshire Council funds the Safer Homes project. For further information and to find out if you are eligible for its services, complete the contact us box on North Lanarkshire Council website.

The Wise Group also offers safety and security checks for East Ayrshire tenants and can also install additional safety and security measures. This includes checking smoke alarms, with smoke, to make sure the sensor is working, not just checking the battery. We also check Carbon Monoxide detectors and supply intruder alarms, touch lights, dusk to dawn bulbs, and CCTV. This helps people feel safer and more secure in their own homes, helping them keep their independence and remain in their own homes for longer.
