Experiencing hospitality with Brenikov

Newcastle United Foundation linked up with Jesmond based Brenikov Training to raise awareness of employment opportunities within the hospitality industry, thanks to Talent Match North East (TMNE).

Talent Match is a Big Lottery funded programme dedicated to providing long-term unemployed young people with the tailored support they need to overcome barriers into work.

The Foundation’s Employability team works with hundreds of young people and adults every year, helping them develop key skills to support their transition back into employment, training or education.

Newcastle United Foundation is a delivery partner of TMNE, helping long term unemployed 18-24 yr-olds across the region move towards work.

Brenikov Training offers young people insights into working in the hospitality industry, also helping by creating links with key employers in the region.

Young people have benefitted from additional skills development sessions, workshops with local employers and work experience opportunities, as part of the Talent Match programme. Learners are also working towards their Level 1 in Personal Development for Employability.

Newcastle United Foundation Project Officer, Daniel Hancock, said: “We’re really privileged to have Brenikov Training as an Employability Partner, benefitting young people on the Talent Match programme. They have been incredibly supportive in helping some of our young people learn more about the hospitality industry and in identifying work experience opportunities.

“Both the Foundation and Brenikov are committed to helping these young people enhance their skills, showing them the opportunities open to them and working with them to help secure paid employment in a sector that is thriving in the North East. It’s important that we have pathways into different sectors to support the aims and ambitions of our participants and by working with Brenikov Training we’re able to make our participants aware of the opportunities available.”

Jacqui Brenikov, Managing Director of Brenikov Training, added: “We’re passionate about helping young people achieve their ambitions – a value we share with Newcastle United Foundation. Our expertise and contacts in the hospitality industry means we have a lot to offer, in particular our contacts in the local business community which has enabled us to organise question and answer sessions with businesses so participants can understand what employers are looking for.

“We’ve supported a number of young people by offering work placements, most recently at the Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza and it was great to hear such positive feedback from both the employer and the young person.”

Ant, a TMNE participant who was on the course, commented: “I did work experience at the Holiday Inn and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was a bit worried I might not be able to do the job. But the work I have done with Newcastle United Foundation and Brenikov Training gave me the confidence to turn up on the first day. It was hard at first but I soon realised that I could do it and my confidence grew even more. I suddenly realised that I could definitely work in hospitality.”
