Lower energy bills, with support that works for your whole household

If you’ve been contacted about the Glasgow home battery service, this page explains what it is, how it works, and the support you’ll receive.

This service is delivered in partnership by Glasgow City Council, E.ON and the Wise Group. If you would like to talk to one of us please call
0141 303 3131.

What is the home battery service?

The home battery service is designed to help households in Glasgow reduce electricity bills and feel more in control of their energy use.

f your home is suitable, a battery can be installed outside your property. It stores electricity when it’s cheapest and allows you to use that cheaper energy later, helping to lower your bills over time.

This isn’t a one-off discount. It’s about longer-term savings.

What makes this service different?

The battery is only one part of the service.

You’ll also be supported by a dedicated mentor from the Wise Group. Their role is to make sure the service works properly for you and your household.

Your mentor will:

  • be your main point of contact throughout the process
  • explain things clearly and at your pace
  • help you understand how the battery and tariff work
  • support you with energy bills or debt if needed
  • stay in touch after installation to help you hold onto the savings

This support is called Relational Mentoring - it means having one trusted person who stays with you, rather than being passed between services.

Is this just about energy?

No. Energy costs don’t exist on their own.

Your mentor can also help you look at other things that may be putting pressure on your household, such as:

You decide what support you want. Nothing is forced.

What does the journey look like?

1

First contact

You’ll speak to someone from the Wise Group or Glasgow Helps to explain the service and check if you’re interested.

2

One-to-one support

If you go ahead, a mentor will get in touch and become your main contact.

3

Home check

E.ON will assess whether your home is suitable for a battery. Your mentor can support you through this.

4

Installation and follow-up

If installed, your mentor stays in touch to help you understand how it works and make the most of it.

5

Ongoing support

Support continues until things feel more stable and you’re confident managing your energy.

Do I have to take the battery?

No. You can say no at any point.

Even if your home isn’t suitable for a battery, or you decide not to go ahead, support may still be available to help with energy costs or other issues.

Is there a cost?

There is no cost to talk to us or to receive mentoring support.

If a battery is installed, this is funded through an energy support scheme and explained clearly before anything happens.

Why are we offering this?

Because lowering bills works best when:

  • homes are supported with the right technology and
  • people are supported to understand, use and benefit from it

This service is about helping households reduce stress, avoid crisis, and build stability, not just getting through one winter.
