The Inverclyde Home Energy Advice Team offers impartial energy advice and support to any resident in Inverclyde who has an energy related concern.
The team recently helped a man who had dementia and was cared for by his daughter. They had a gas central heating system, but it had failed.
To get a new gas central heating system fitted, they had to use all of his savings, but two rooms were left without radiators due to lack of funds.
The family were referred to I.HEAT by the Carers Centre in Greenock. An I.HEAT team member, James, visited their house and was able to get them on a better energy tarriff with their supplier, saving them £106 each year.
James was able to inform them that they were eligible for the Warm Homes Discount, which they had not claimed before, saving them a further £140 from their energy bill. James also m anaged to get money from the emergency fund to get two new gas radiators so the whole house could be heated.
The help from I.HEAT has allowed this family to have a better standard of living in a warm, comfortable home.
It has taken a great deal of pressure from this man’s daughter, as she had been under a great deal of stress. Now that she does not have to worry about heating their home, she can give her father the care he needs, and said:
“I think the I.HEAT service is great and has been so supportive of both me and my father. I just love the fact I can just call and you are there to help.”
